Véro & Kurt’s Playful Summer Engagement Session at Britannia Beach
Véro and Kurt chose a place that already meant something to them for their engagement session, and I loved that. Their hidden spot at Britannia Beach in Ottawa is where they spend warm summer evenings with friends, swimming, watching sunsets, and unwinding by the water. Photographing a session in a location that holds real memories always brings out a deeper level of connection, and that’s exactly what happened here.
Starting Under the Willow Tree
We began the session under a beautiful willow tree with golden light streaming through the branches. It immediately set the tone for the evening. The sunlight was bright and warm, and instead of fighting it, we leaned into it. This is something I’ve grown to trust with outdoor sessions: when the light is strong, you adjust, you embrace it, and it often creates a glow that feels alive. The images under the willow have that warm, summery softness that I love.
Their Secret Beach Spot
Afterwards, we walked over to their hidden beach. This little corner of Britannia Beach feels private and peaceful even on a busy summer day, and it made the session feel relaxed and intimate. Their dog, full of energy and very attached to Kurt, came along and added so much personality to the photos. Once we were near the water, he ran around playing with his stick, splashing through the waves while we captured natural, candid moments between Véro and Kurt.
They popped a bottle of champagne by the shoreline, and the light reflecting off the water made everything look extra magical. Sessions like this remind me how important it is to trust the process. Even with bright sun earlier in the evening, the light softened beautifully as sunset approached, giving us those dreamy, romantic tones that make beach sessions so special.
Ending the Session in the Water
We finished the evening in the water at sunset. They were playful, relaxed, and fully in the moment, and that energy comes through in every frame. These two have a natural spark, the kind of chemistry that makes photographing them feel effortless. While I guide my couples towards the best light and offer gentle posing suggestions, the real magic happens in the in between moments, and Véro and Kurt created those moments over and over again.
This session reflects so much of what I love about engagement photography in Ottawa: warm colours, movement, emotion, and couples who show up ready to be themselves.
Closing Thoughts
Summer engagement sessions at the water always have my heart, especially when couples choose locations that already hold meaning for them. Britannia Beach has so much variety, from tree lined pathways to glowing water views, and it’s a beautiful spot for couples who want a relaxed, romantic session with lots of natural light.
