Wear something that feels like you, just slightly elevated.
I always recommend earthy, grounded tones. They photograph beautifully in every season and create a calm, timeless feel in your gallery.
Some examples to work with:
Cream, ivory, beige
Warm browns and tans
Olive, sage, deep green
Rust, terracotta, muted orange
Deep red, wine, soft plum
Soft denim, warm grey
Try to avoid bright neon colours, heavy logos, or very bold patterns as these tend to pull attention away from the people in the frame.
Coordinating Without Matching If you're coming as a couple or a family, you don't need to match exactly. Aim to complement each other instead.
Choose colours within the same warm or neutral palette
Mix textures like knits, linen, denim, and wool
One person can stay neutral while another adds a bit of depth or colour
For kids, the same rules apply: a coordinated palette always looks more cohesive than identical outfits
Layers and Movement Layers add visual interest and give us variety without a full outfit change. Jackets, sweaters, scarves, and coats can easily be added or removed throughout the session, which keeps things feeling dynamic and relaxed.

Yes, and I love when people do! Pets add so much personality to a session. I'd recommend having someone on hand who can wrangle them between shots so you're not spending the whole session worried about them.

Absolutely. Props work best when they mean something to you, a sonogram, a favourite blanket, a book you both love, a bottle of wine, a guitar, a game you love to play.... The goal is always to tell your story, so if there's something that feels like you, bring it along.

I love helping with this. Location sets the whole mood of a gallery, so it's worth thinking about what feels like you: your neighbourhood, a place with meaning, somewhere with beautiful light. I have go-to spots around Ottawa that I know well in different seasons and at different times of day. We can talk through options together and find something that fits the look you're going for.

Your gallery will be delivered within 4 weeks of your session, but you’ll receive some previews a few days after your session.
You'll receive a link to your private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your images. -
For outdoor sessions, I keep a close eye on the forecast as your date approaches. If conditions look genuinely unworkable, like heavy rain, extreme cold, that kind of thing, we'll reschedule to a different day. A little overcast or light cloud is actually ideal for portraits, so I'll always encourage us to go ahead if there's any chance of a good session.
