Jess & Drew’s Downtown Ottawa Wedding Celebration

Jess and Drew planned a simple, heartfelt celebration in Ottawa after eloping in Spain, and their day reflected everything they value: ease, joy, time with loved ones, and an atmosphere that felt true to them.

They asked for only three hours of photography coverage, wanting a mix of meaningful portraits and natural, documentary moments with their friends. Sessions like this always feel refreshing because they’re focused on what matters most, and this one was no exception.

A Rooftop First Look at the Andaz

We started the evening at the Andaz Hotel in downtown Ottawa, where Jess and Drew got ready separately before sharing a short first look on the rooftop terrace.

It was one of my favourite moments from their day. They were relaxed, smiling, completely themselves, and we had beautiful early-summer light washing over the city. Their energy made them incredibly easy to photograph. They’re the kind of couple who carry warmth with them, and that showed in every frame.

Golden Hour Portraits at Château Laurier

From there, we walked to Château Laurier and Major’s Hill Park, two of my favourite spots for wedding portraits in Ottawa. The historic buildings downtown always elevate photos, and paired with the warm June sun we had that evening, everything looked polished, glowy, and full of life.

My favourite images are the ones we captured on the terrace overlooking the Ottawa River and Gatineau. The colours in the landscape blended perfectly with their outfits, and the backlit portraits ended up being some of the most memorable of the day.

A Lively Cocktail Party at The Starling

Jess and Drew ended their celebration at The Starling, surrounded by friends who were genuinely thrilled to see them home in Ottawa. Since they now live in Spain, having everyone in one place felt extra special. The vibe was fun, relaxed, and full of laughter. Drew even DJed for the second half of the night, which brought an energy that fit them perfectly.

Documenting these kinds of gatherings is one of my favourite parts of wedding photography. It’s candid, warm, and honest. You can feel the friendships and the history between people, and the photos reflect that.
